Starship Troopers Arachnid

This Model is the Arachnid from the movie Starship Troopers.

To begin, a box model of the Arachnid was created to get the general size and proportions correct.

Once the box model was finished, it was unwrapped and transferred into Mudbox where the model was subdivided to add more detail to the model, for example adding some texture to the legs and the body.

When the model has been sculpted, it was re-imported into 3ds max to retopologies; to create a low ploy mesh for preparation for the baking process. Once completed the mesh is unwrapped. Before exporting both high and low poly meshes, the positions of both meshes are put to zero and exporting both meshes separately.

In substance I imported the low poly mesh; went to the Texture set setting and clicked the Bake mesh maps button. I linked the meshes by name and then pressed bake mesh maps. Once the baking was done, I texture the model and rendered in substance.
